A little humor for your Thursday!
Well, kind of.
This concept of “ugly” fruit does tell us something about our society and its standards. We have such strict expectations of human beauty that it carries over into other aspects of our lives. It effects what fruit we eat and what fruit we throw away. We don’t throw it away because it’s bad, but because it’s ugly. It has something to offer, but we ignore it because it looks different than the norm.
In a way, we do the same thing with people. When someone isn’t “beautiful” we ignore their worth and assume that they have nothing to offer this world.
