There is nothing wrong with being a princess.
The issue created is ONLY giving young girls the option to be a princess. It is important to allow girls to think beyond just being a princess.
This princess culture leads to the beauty myth, focusing on beauty over brains. Girls are more comfortable being a princess than aspiring to be president, or an engineer. As we know, this princess ideal doesn’t stop after puberty. Girls continue to place higher value on their looks than their smarts or other abilities.
Ok, so maybe it’s not the girls who are necessarily doing this, but society instead.
The message we send to girls is that we don’t care about what they have to say or what they think, we just want them to look pretty and that’s how they can contribute to society. Let the men do the talking and country leading.
Instead of forcing young girls and teens alike into a box where pink princess is the only choice, more options to encourage bigger thinking is a much better idea.
Women are the world’s greatest unbridled resource.
We gotta start somewhere, so why not with young girls?
